Description:
Marine pipefitters fabricate, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair miles of shipboard pipe systems. In addition, they install and connect pipe segments, fittings and valves to supply the ship with water, chemicals, gases or other critical fluids. They also operate hand and power tools, machines and test equipment to cut, bend and install pipe segments.

Technical School, Community College, Registered Apprenticeship Program, and Industry Training Program
Qualifications:
Able to layout, fabricate, fit and install pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized copper, copper nickel and stainless steel. Able to use a torch and/or cutting tools in beveling and cutting pipe to desired specifications. Read and interpret piping blueprints, as well as work from standard and metric specifications. Able to determine the offset and rolling offset bends for piping systems in addition to being familiar with pipe materials, valves and fittings.
